Holding an Advanced pilot certificate does not authorize BVLOS operations. Who Needs an RPOC?

High-Risk VLOS Operations

Standard Advanced Operations
Operators conducting standard Advanced operations — VLOS flights in uncontrolled airspace, VLOS flights in controlled airspace with a NAV CANADA authorization, and operations within the standard Advanced framework — do not require an RPOC. The Advanced pilot certificate is sufficient for these operations. An RPOC is only required when the operation type exceeds the Advanced framework and enters Level 1 Complex or BVLOS territory.
Size Doesn’t Exempt You
A sole proprietor conducting BVLOS operations needs an RPOC just as much as a large corporation. The RPOC requirement is triggered by the operation type, not the organization size. A single-person drone company conducting pipeline corridor BVLOS surveys must hold an RPOC with BVLOS in the approved operations manual. Every Scenario Must Be Addressed
