European Compliance Pathways

Choose the correct configuration for the intended operation

The certification route depends on whether the parachute is fitted to an existing aircraft or supplied as part of a factory-certified C6 configuration.

Retrofit Path

Existing Matrice 400 + AP100

C5 / UK5: Supports STS-01 visual-line-of-sight operations over a controlled ground area in a populated environment, subject to applicable requirements.

Factory-Certified Path

Matrice 400 (C6) Worry-Free Plus Combo

C6 / UK6: Supports the factory-certified route for STS-02 BVLOS operations with airspace observers over a controlled ground area, subject to applicable requirements.

Independent and Redundant

A dedicated safety system that monitors every flight

01 / SELF-MONITORING

Continuous system health checks

From power-on through flight, the AP100 monitors its gas generator and communication links. Anomalies trigger real-time alerts through the Health Management System in DJI Pilot 2.

02 / VALIDATION

Independent controller and IMU

Its independent flight controller and onboard sensors cross-check parachute and aircraft data to reduce the risk of an unintended deployment caused by a false positive.

03 / BACKUP POWER

Up to one hour of independent operation

Built-in dual capacitors keep attitude monitoring and automatic deployment available without relying on the aircraft's main battery or an active E-Port connection.

04 / FLIGHT TERMINATION

Rotor stop before parachute ejection

The independent Flight Termination System cuts motor power and stops the rotors before ejection, helping prevent the parachute canopy and lines from becoming entangled.

05 / RECOVERY ALERTS

Audible and visual alarms

After deployment, loud alarms and high-intensity flashing lights continue for approximately one hour to warn people nearby and help operators locate the aircraft.

06 / FIELD INTEGRATION

Rear-mounted and case compatible

The mounting position avoids interference with battery changes or payload configurations. The Matrice 400 fits in its standard carrying case with the AP100 attached.

Deployment Methods

Multiple ways to activate the safety system

Automatic, pilot-controlled and supported remote deployment pathways provide operational flexibility.

  • Automatic — flight anomalyTriggered when the system detects an abnormal aircraft attitude or speed.
  • Automatic — GeocagingTriggered by a configured Geocaging boundary breach in DJI Pilot 2 in supported countries and regions.
  • Manual — DJI Pilot 2Activated by the pilot using the on-screen deployment slider.
  • Remote — DJI FlightHub 2Available through the Flight Termination System page in supported regions; requires the aircraft serial number, a verification code, DJI Cellular Dongle 2 and an active 4G connection.

Operational Planning

Built for field use—with one sensing trade-off to plan around

Lightweight integration

At approximately 935 g, the AP100 preserves the Matrice 400's maximum supported takeoff weight of 15.8 kg, with an approximate six-minute flight-time impact under DJI's test conditions.

IP55 environmental rating

The system shares the Matrice 400's IP55 rating and operates from −20°C to 50°C (−4°F to 122°F). Protection can decrease over time through normal wear.

Obstacle-sensing change

When the AP100 is installed, the Matrice 400 automatically disables its downward and backward mmWave radars. Small-obstacle sensing in those directions is therefore limited.

Single-use safety device

The AP100 must be completely replaced after deployment. If it remains undeployed and continues to pass daily self-checks, DJI recommends retiring the system three years after activation.

Use Cases

A safety layer for complex Matrice 400 operations

01 / URBAN OPERATIONS

Patrol and event support

Pair the M400 with the AP100, H30T, spotlight and speaker for traffic guidance, event safety notices and situational awareness in controlled urban operations.

02 / FACADE WORK

Building cleaning and inspection

Add a dedicated recovery layer when operating an M400 with compatible cleaning or inspection equipment near glass curtain walls and developed areas.

03 / DELIVERY

Time-critical transport

Support lab-to-hospital, remote-community, island and urgent parcel delivery programs with a purpose-built flight termination and recovery system.

  • Stabilized descent speed, minimum effective deployment altitude, response time, backup-power duration and flight-time impact are based on DJI test conditions. Actual results may vary with payload, weather, altitude, environment, use and firmware.
  • Geocaging and DJI FlightHub 2 remote FTS deployment are limited to supported countries and regions. DJI Cellular Dongle 2 and active 4G service are sold separately and service availability varies by region.
  • C5/UK5 and C6/UK6 classifications apply only to qualifying configurations. C6/UK6 cannot be obtained by retrofitting an AP100 to an existing standard Matrice 400. Always confirm the aircraft configuration and comply with applicable aviation laws and operational requirements.
